Guided tours
A guided tour through the Hortus Bulborum is a true experience. It brings the unique bulb collection to life. Of course you can enjoy the multi-faceted and fragrant bulb fields with its immense beauty on your one in silence. However, you can also be guided by one of the volunteers who unveil the secrets of this humble though unique (in a world perspective) garden. He knows the answers on many questions.
How many groups of daffodils does the collection of the Hortus Bulborum consists of? How many varieties and cultivars does the garden contain? How did these dazzling veined Rembrandt tulips came into existence? When were the first tulips planted in Holland? Or how got the Duc van Tol tulip its name? Many guides worked in the bulb industry for many decades and are first hand sources on the whereabouts and the history of the Hortus Bulborum. Though, some of them also love to tell stories and anecdotes with as much fervour about interesting and commemorative moments in the history of the flower that has made many man mad.
If you want to visit the garden with group of more than ten people, please make an advance booking. Smaller groups and individuals can, during their visit, often appeal to one of the volunteers that are always walking around. Some of them do speak one of more foreign languages, amongst others English, French and/or German. While others master some of these languages enough to unveil some of the mysteries and give your visit to this treasure trove of heirloom bulbs an unexpected depth.
Arrangements for group visits and guided tours (only for groups exceeding ten people) can be made by contacting member of the Board of Governors and coordinator Joop Zonneveld by phone: +31(0)251 23 12 86 or cell phone +31(0)6 53 831 715 or through e-mail: info@hortus-bulborum.nl. Requests for the upcoming season can be made throughout the year.
